Korean Bank Code Finder

Search a South Korean bank by name to get its bank code, SWIFT/BIC, address and transfer details.

Korean banks have a 3-digit bank code, for example 004 for KB Kookmin Bank and 088 for Shinhan Bank. You use it with the account number for a domestic transfer, and you do not need a branch code. Type a bank name in English or Korean, a code, or a SWIFT/BIC, and the finder shows its bank code, name, branch (head office), SWIFT/BIC, address and domestic transfer information. It has 28 banks and institutions.

Find a Bank

Bank name, bank code or SWIFT/BIC

Type part of the name. English and Korean both work. The search runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent.

Bank codes come from published code lists, and BIC and address data from the public LEI and Swift records, all checked on 19 September 2026. Banks change names and move, and the address is the one registered in the LEI record, so it can be out of date. Before you send money, confirm the bank and the account number with the person you are paying.

What a Korean Bank Code Is

A Korean bank code is a 3-digit number that names a bank, or a group of cooperative institutions, in the Korean interbank network. You may see it called the financial institution code (금융기관 코드) or the bank code (은행 코드). Payment and payout services use it together with the account number to say which bank an account is at. Securities firms have their own 3-digit codes, mostly starting with 2, which are not in this finder.

Sending Money Within Korea

A domestic transfer needs the bank, the account number and the account holder's name. The bank is named by its code, or by its name on a bank form. There is no branch code to give, because the account number identifies the account. The Bank of Korea says the retail payment systems that Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute (KFTC) runs include the Interbank Shared Network Systems, and that they are settled through BOK-Wire+ at the central bank. KFTC also runs the Open Banking service that many apps use to check a receiving account and send a transfer.

Sending Money to Korea From Abroad

A payment from another country normally goes by the receiving bank's SWIFT/BIC code, the account number and the account holder's name. The BICs on this page are the ones that Swift and GLEIF have mapped to the bank. Confirm the BIC with the recipient's bank, because a bank can have more than one, and check the format on our SWIFT code checker.

What "Branch" Means Here

The finder shows the head office as the branch, because that is what the bank code and the BIC point to. A BIC ends with a 3-character branch code, and XXX is the head office. Some banks have other BICs, such as Hana Bank's KOEXKRSE with the branch codes CLS, FCL and FCN, and the finder lists them. Korean domestic transfers do not use a branch code.

Tips

  • Some payment companies use their own short codes. NHN KCP, for example, lists Shinhan Bank as 26 for virtual accounts, and 088 is the code for transfers. Use the code the service asks for.
  • Banks change names. iM Bank was Daegu Bank, and the Standard Chartered bank in Korea was called SC First Bank.
  • Several cooperative and mutual institutions share one code, such as 048 for credit unions and 045 for Saemaul Geumgo. For these, ask the recipient for the name of the institution as well.

What This Page Uses

The 3-digit codes are the ones in the developer documents of two Korean payment companies, Toss Payments and NHN KCP. Both lists agree on the 25 codes they share, and an older public list confirms the codes that only one of them has. KFTC's own code list was not available to us. The bank names, BICs and addresses come from the banks' LEI records at GLEIF, which are open data under the CC0 licence, and from the Swift and GLEIF BIC-to-LEI mapping. 9 of the codes have no BIC in that mapping. We last checked on 19 September 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Korean bank code?

A Korean bank code is a 3-digit number that names a bank, or a group of cooperative institutions, in Korea's interbank network. It is also called the financial institution code. Payment and payout services use it with the account number to say which bank an account is at.

What are the bank codes of the big Korean banks?

In this finder KB Kookmin Bank is 004, Shinhan Bank is 088, Woori Bank is 020, Hana Bank is 081, NH Nonghyup Bank is 011, IBK is 003 and KakaoBank is 090. The table on this page lists all 28.

Do I need a branch code to send money within Korea?

No. A Korean domestic transfer is addressed by the bank and the account number, and the recipient's name. The bank is named by its code, or by its name on a bank form. There is no branch code to give.

Does South Korea use IBAN?

No. South Korea is not in the IBAN system. A payment to Korea goes to an account number, and from abroad it also needs the bank's SWIFT/BIC code.

What is the SWIFT code of my Korean bank?

Search for the bank above. For example the head office BIC of KB Kookmin Bank is CZNBKRSEXXX, of Shinhan Bank SHBKKRSEXXX and of KakaoBank KAKOKR22XXX. Some old-looking BICs, such as Woori Bank's HVBKKRSEXXX, are still the current ones in the records. Confirm a BIC with the bank before you send money.

Why does a bank have no SWIFT code on this page?

9 of the 28 codes have no BIC in the Swift and GLEIF mapping. Some are groups of cooperatives with no single head office. Others, such as Jeju Bank, K Bank and Toss Bank, have no BIC in the public mapping we use, even though they may have one. Ask the bank.

Why do some banks share one code?

Cooperative and mutual institutions, such as credit unions (048), Saemaul Geumgo (045), savings banks (050), forestry cooperatives (064) and local Nonghyup cooperatives (012), share one code across many separate institutions. For these there is no single head office or BIC, so ask the recipient for the name of the institution as well.

Have any Korean banks changed their names?

Yes. iM Bank was Daegu Bank, and the Standard Chartered bank in Korea has been called SC First Bank. Hana Bank's LEI record still uses the name KEB Hana Bank. The code stays the same when a name changes, so use the code.

Are the codes the same at every payment company?

Mostly. The transfer codes of Toss Payments and NHN KCP agree on every bank they share. But a payment service can use its own short codes. NHN KCP, for example, lists Shinhan Bank as 26 for virtual accounts and 088 for transfers. Use the code the service asks for.

Are securities firms in the finder?

No. Securities companies have their own 3-digit codes, mostly starting with 2, in the same code lists. This finder covers banks, the post office and cooperative institutions.

How current are the address and the BIC?

The address is the head office address registered in the bank's LEI record, and the BIC comes from the monthly Swift and GLEIF mapping. Banks move and change their details, and GLEIF says it cannot guarantee that a record is accurate or up to date. Check an address with the bank.

Where do the bank codes come from?

From the developer documents of two Korean payment companies, Toss Payments and NHN KCP. They agree on the 25 codes they share, and an older public list confirms the other three. KFTC, the institute that runs Korea's interbank systems, has its own code list, but we could not open it, so we say so. Confirm a code with the bank.

Is anything I type stored or sent?

No. The search runs in your browser on data that is inside the page. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

This page is for information only. It does not contact any bank. Confirm payment details with your bank before you send money. Not financial advice. Not provided or endorsed by GLEIF, Swift or any bank.
