How we decide what goes live
Editorial Policy: the rules we publish by
Who is responsible, what we will and will not publish, how we check it, and how money is kept away from what a page says.
Who Is Responsible
Patrick
Founder and editor
The editor decides what is published, what is changed and what is withdrawn, and is responsible for it. AbokiCalculator is independent. It is not part of, or paid by, any bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria, SWIFT or any payment provider.
What We Publish
Naira rates
Indicative parallel market and official reference rates, with the time they were collected.
Calculators
Tools that convert, compare and show their working, using dated official data.
Checkers and guides
Bank code and account number checkers, and plain guides to why international transfers go wrong.
We start from a real need: a question a reader has asked, a message that reported a gap, or a rule that people get wrong. We do not publish a page only to have a page.
How We Decide What Is True
Every fact and figure goes down this ladder. If it cannot stand on a rung, it is not published.
- The official publisherA central bank, regulator, standards body, clearing scheme or statistics office, reading its own publication. This is always the first choice.
- The organisation's own pageFor a fact only an institution can state, such as a bank's own code, we read it on that institution's own page or notice.
- Two independent references that agreeWhen the official publisher cannot be read, a fact needs two independent published references that agree, and the page says which they are.
- Otherwise: not publishedA figure we cannot check is left out, and the page says it is missing. We do not estimate, round up to look complete or copy from a blog.
Numbers
- Calculated, not typed by hand, and tested against independent arithmetic.
- Dated, with the reference named.
- An invented number is called an example, never a rate or an offer.
Rates
- Shown only with at least two quotes from two websites.
- Never called real-time. The collection time is on the page.
- The full method is on the methodology page.
How a Page Is Made and Kept Current
- ChooseA real need, from a reader or from a gap we can see.
- ResearchFind the rule, directory or data on the ladder above.
- BuildImplement the rule exactly, and say plainly what the page cannot do.
- TestCheck results against published examples and independent calculations.
- Publish and dateThe page shows what it uses and when it was last checked.
- UpdateWhen a reference changes, or a reader reports a problem, the page is updated and its date changes.
Money and Independence
- How the site is paid for. It is free. It may earn from display advertising, including Google ads, and from affiliate links, where a commission may be paid at no extra cost to you. See the disclaimer and privacy policy.
- What money cannot do. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in any rate, result, ranking or correction. No payment changes a figure.
- Ads are separate. Advertisements are served by an advertising network and are not endorsements by us.
What We Do Not Do
Never on AbokiCalculator
- Give financial, investment, legal or tax advice, or forecast rates.
- Recommend, rank or list individual dealers or street traders.
- Fill in a missing rate, a missing date or a missing code with a guess.
- Present an indicative reference as a rate you are guaranteed.
- Let payment change what a page says.
When We Get It Wrong
Errors are reported, checked, and corrected or withdrawn, and material corrections are logged in public. Read how on the corrections page.

Quick Answers
Who is responsible for what is published?
Patrick, the founder and editor, decides what is published, changed or withdrawn, and is responsible for it. AbokiCalculator is independent and is not affiliated with any bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria or any payment provider.
Do advertisers or affiliate partners influence what you publish?
No. The site may earn from display advertising and affiliate links, but advertisers and partners have no say in any rate, result, ranking or correction, and no payment changes a figure.
What do you do when an official publisher cannot be read?
A fact then needs two independent published references that agree, and the page says which they are. If we cannot get that, the fact is not published and the page says it is missing.
How often is content updated?
There is no fixed schedule. A page is updated when the reference behind it changes or when a reader reports a problem, and every page shows what it uses and when it was last checked. Rates are collected on a schedule, and their collection time is shown.
What if a page does not follow this policy?
Tell the editor at hello@abokicalculator.com or through the contact form. Errors are handled as described on the corrections page.
