Egypt Bank Code Checker

Egypt Bank Code Checker

Egypt Bank Code Checker

Search an Egyptian bank for its address, SWIFT/BIC and InstaPay information, or paste an IBAN to read its bank code.

Egyptian banks are named in an IBAN by a 4-digit bank code, in characters 5 to 8. An Egyptian IBAN has 29 characters: EG, 2 check digits, the bank code, a 4-digit branch code and a 17-digit account number. The Central Bank of Egypt takes the codes from a clearing file that it does not publish, so we cannot name most banks from a code, and the checker does not guess. Type a bank name, and it shows the bank's head office address, SWIFT/BIC and InstaPay information. Paste an IBAN, and it reads the bank code and branch code and tests the check digits. It has 36 banks.

Find a Bank or Check an IBAN

Bank name, SWIFT/BIC or IBAN

Type part of a bank name, a BIC, or a full IBAN. The search runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent. Do not paste an IBAN that you would not share.

The banks are the 36 in the Central Bank of Egypt's list of banks registered to the Instant Payment Network (last updated 2 February 2025). Head office addresses and registration dates are from the Central Bank of Egypt's list of registered banks. 27 of the BICs are confirmed by public LEI records. The only IBAN bank code we can confirm is Banque Misr's, from its own guide. Banks merge and rename, so confirm the details and the IBAN with the bank or the person you are paying before you send money.

What an Egypt Bank Code Is

In an Egyptian IBAN the bank is named by a 4-digit code, and the branch by another 4 digits after it. The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) says the bank code is characters 5 to 8 of the IBAN and the branch code characters 9 to 12, and that the bank ID, which is the two together, is unique to each bank and obtained from the clearing file. All IBANs in Egypt have a fixed length of 29 characters.

Why This Page Names Only One Bank From a Code

The CBE's pages describe the parts of the IBAN, and they do not list the bank codes. We looked at the IBAN pages of several Egyptian banks, and only Banque Misr's guide shows its own code, 0002. Public IBAN sites show sample IBANs but no reliable list of banks and codes, and we could not check them against a bank or the CBE, so we do not use them. The page tells you the bank code and branch code that are in an IBAN you paste, and names the bank only when the code is 0002. For any other bank, the code is in the IBAN that the bank gives you.

The Check Digits

The two check digits come from the MOD 97 method of ISO 7064, as the CBE's IBAN validator page says. Move EG and the check digits to the end, replace letters with numbers, and the remainder after dividing by 97 must be 1. The checker runs the same test on an IBAN you paste. A pass means the IBAN is correctly formed. It does not mean that the account exists or whose it is.

The Instant Payment Network and InstaPay

The Instant Payment Network (IPN) is a national network that links all operating banks in Egypt. The CBE says it launched on 22 March 2022 and lets customers make real-time transfers on weekdays and on official holidays, to bank accounts, Meeza cards and mobile wallets, through the bank's own channels or one mobile application, InstaPay. The CBE's page, last updated 2 February 2025, gives the limits of InstaPay as EGP 70,000 for each transaction, EGP 120,000 a day and EGP 400,000 a month, for each bank registered in the app. All the banks in the finder are on the CBE's list of banks registered to IPN. Check your own bank's limits, because they may have changed since.

Sending Money to Egypt From Abroad

A payment from another country needs the recipient's IBAN, and the bank's SWIFT/BIC code. Egyptian banks say the CBE decided that the IBAN is used from 30 June 2020. Credit Agricole Egypt says it is requested for incoming and outgoing transfers in all banks, and ALEXBANK says the existing account number stays valid for local transfers, and that the IBAN is required for international transfers. Ask the recipient for the IBAN that the bank gave them, and check it here and on our IBAN validator. Check the format of a BIC on our SWIFT code checker.

Tips

  • Get the IBAN from the bank's app, a statement, its website or the branch, and paste it here to read the codes and test the digits.
  • Foreign and Gulf banks appear under their Egyptian names, for example HSBC Bank Egypt and Emirates NBD Egypt. For a few of them the LEI record is of the parent abroad, and the finder says so.
  • Some banks have changed their names. The CBE's list calls one bank Bank NXT, and we found no head office address or BIC for it.

What This Page Uses

The IBAN structure comes from the Central Bank of Egypt's pages on the IBAN and its IBAN validator, and from the SWIFT IBAN Registry, where Egypt has 29 characters. The list of banks and the facts about the network come from the CBE's page on the Instant Payment Network. Head office addresses and registration dates come from the CBE's list of banks registered with it, which has no date and includes some older names, and we matched its rows to the names on the IPN list by hand. BICs come from the Swift and GLEIF mapping, and 27 banks have a record in GLEIF, whose LEI data is open under the CC0 licence. Banque Misr's code is from its IBAN guide. We last checked on 20 September 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Egypt bank code?

In an Egyptian IBAN the bank is named by a 4-digit code in characters 5 to 8, and the branch by a 4-digit code in characters 9 to 12. The Central Bank of Egypt says the bank ID, the two together, is unique to each bank and comes from the clearing file. It does not publish the list of codes.

What is the bank code of NBE, CIB and Banque Misr?

The bank code of Banque Misr is 0002, according to the bank's own IBAN guide. We could not confirm the codes of National Bank of Egypt or Commercial International Bank from the Central Bank of Egypt or from the banks, so the finder does not give one. The code is in characters 5 to 8 of the IBAN that the bank gives you.

Where do I find the bank code of my account?

In your IBAN, in characters 5 to 8. Egyptian banks say you can find your IBAN in the bank's app, on your statement, on its website or at a branch. Paste it in the finder, and it reads the codes and tests the check digits.

Why does the finder not name my bank from its code?

The Central Bank of Egypt takes the codes from a clearing file that it does not publish, and only Banque Misr's own guide shows its code. Public sites list sample IBANs, but we could not check them against a bank or the Central Bank of Egypt, so we would rather name no bank than a wrong one.

Is the bank code the same as the SWIFT/BIC?

No. The bank code has 4 digits and is part of the IBAN. A SWIFT/BIC code has 8 or 11 characters and is for payments from abroad. For example the BIC of the National Bank of Egypt is NBEGEGCX, of CIB CIBEEGCX and of Banque Misr BMISEGCX. Check the format of a BIC on our SWIFT code checker.

What do I need to receive money from abroad in Egypt?

Your IBAN, your name as it is on the account, and your bank's SWIFT/BIC code. Egyptian banks say the Central Bank of Egypt decided that the IBAN is used from 30 June 2020. Credit Agricole Egypt says it is requested for incoming and outgoing transfers in all banks, and ALEXBANK says it is required for international transfers and that the old account number stays valid for local ones.

What are IPN and InstaPay?

The Instant Payment Network (IPN) is a national network that links all operating banks in Egypt. The Central Bank of Egypt says it launched on 22 March 2022 and allows real-time transfers on weekdays and on official holidays. InstaPay is the mobile application that works over it. All 36 banks in the finder are on the Central Bank's list of banks registered to IPN.

What is the limit of an InstaPay transfer?

The Central Bank of Egypt's page, last updated 2 February 2025, gives EGP 70,000 for each transaction, EGP 120,000 a day and EGP 400,000 a month, for each bank registered in the app. Your bank may set its own limits, and the Central Bank may have changed these, so check with your bank.

Where do the head office addresses come from?

From the Central Bank of Egypt's list of banks registered with it. The list has no date, and some of its names are older than the ones on the IPN list, so we matched them by hand. The finder has no address from it for the Central Bank itself and for Bank NXT, and uses the LEI record for the central bank.

Why do some banks have no SWIFT/BIC on this page?

9 of the 36 banks have none. We found no BIC tied to them in the public LEI data, so the finder does not show one. Ask the bank for its SWIFT/BIC.

How current is this page?

The Central Bank of Egypt's list of IPN banks and its limits were last updated on 2 February 2025, and its IBAN pages on 23 March 2023. Banks merge and rename, so confirm the details with the bank. We last checked on 20 September 2026.

Is anything I type stored or sent?

No. The search and the IBAN test run in your browser on data that is inside the page. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

This page is for information only. It does not contact any bank. Confirm payment details with your bank before you send money. Not financial advice. Not provided or endorsed by the Central Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, SWIFT or GLEIF.
